HELIOS EC3 systems are specially designed to combine the powerful capabilities of hyperspectral imaging with the advantages of image processing. HELIOS EC3 systems register the spectral information from the NIR (near infrared) region up to 2500 nm and represents chemical and physical material properties in the HSV (Hue Saturation Value) color space. This transformation model can be generated by various multivariate methods like PCA, PLS, PCR. Once the most suitable configuration is figured out, the system can be easily set up with that configuration and is then streaming Chemical Colors. This enables the user to integrate the HELIOS EC3 like a standard color line scan camera.
If one compares HELIOS EC3 with a heatsensing camera which is just sensing the physical property heat, HELIOS EC3 can detect many more physical and chemical properties like moisture, sugar content, starch content or a combination to measure the stage of maturity of fruits or vegetables.
HELIOS EC3 systems were specially designed for machine builders or system integrators that want to develop chemical imaging applications or want to integrate a Chemical Imaging system to an existing image processing platform.

Chemical Color Images
Chemical Color images are generated from a huge data set of hyperspectral images. These Chemical Color images have many advantages especially for inline processing. On the one hand the huge hyperspectral imaging data sets are reduced to a few bits that can easily be processed and on the other hand these Chemical Color images can easily be interpreted and thus easily processed by standard image processing methods. Such Chemical Color configurations can be saved onto an EVK Chemical Color system (HELIOS EC3) which automatically generates chemical color Information from the spectral information. These Chemical Colors will be streamed in real-time and can be processed with standard image processing methods. That offers endless industrial possibilities even if the user is not specialized in spectroscopy.
